Jarrett Bellini, a writer and humorist for CNN Digital, writes a weekly column titled "Apparently This Matters" in which he explores “trending topics in social media and random items of interest on the interwebs”. His articles may seem trivial yet they are extremely telling of what social media goers are presently interested in. His article titled “Apparently This Matters: At concerts, put that cell phone down”, could serve as a primary source for my research since it is current and very revealing of the ‘validation through social media’ phenomenon. He humorously explores the topic of cell phone use at concerts which I find very descriptive of the “pic or it didn’t happen” mentality of our generation.

She is also currently a freelance writer (writing mostly about science and technology) and a recent graduate of the Magazine Writer's Master Program at NYU. It is telling that a young adult beginning her writing career would be writing about ways to get more likes on instagram. The article provides tips for getting more likes on instagram and is suggestive of how much younger generations care about their number of instagram likes. This article definitely provides insight into society’s desire for external validation through social media.
