The secondary source I chose is called, "The Netflix Effect: Teens, Binge Watching, and On-Demand Digital Media Trends", written by Sidneyeve Matrix from Project Muse. Basically her argument is that Netflix and other digital media streaming sites are becoming extremely popular in todays culture. She thinks that the effect of this is that people are binge watching shows more and therefore creating a community to share your ideas and thoughts about these shows that people are binge watching. "...the Netflix effect that enables weekend-long binges on Arrested Development is not just about convenience and customization...but also about connection and community" (Matrix).
This source was published in the summer of 2014, so maybe certain views on binge watching has changed since then, but I disagree with Matrix. Part of my argument is that binge watching is connected to depression, so that includes that binge watching causes people to be less inclined to go out and socialize with friends because they would rather watch Netflix instead. Matrix says that people can chat with other bingers about a certain show online through chats. This is another issue we have in todays society of people hiding behind computer screens instead of actually having a real conversation with someone in person. Chatting with people online about a show does not help the depression aspect of streaming sites; this person is still inside their house, thinking about Netflix, without human contact.
