We are constantly bombarded with ads wherever we go. I learned in my Media Industry class that we are exposed to over 5000 ads per day! This makes me wonder about the modern media "addict" and how they unwind. Do they do so through media? What about vacations of major CEOs? Are they really freeing themselves and not answering emails and phone calls? Do similiar problems exist for people who live in rural areas?
\n
\nMedia Distraction: I split this into 2 parts: distraction by choice and unavoidable distraction. Distraction by choice is choosing to view a program on tv or reading an article or playing a video game. Unavoidable distraction consists of billboards, notifications from your cellphone, and internet ads.
\n
\nMedia Habits: When do habits become bad? This relates to my paper's topic.

\nBob Dylan as Timeless: Why aren't all media timeless or classic? What makes something timeless or classic? Is it just popularity? Can something be of "low quality" and popular at the same time? Can this still be called classic? Are certain media classic to some and foreign to others?","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"73205458","dateCreated":"1429074605","smartDate":"Apr 14, 2015","userCreated":{"username":"Mr.MediaPsych","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Mr.MediaPsych","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1423180397\/Mr.MediaPsych-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/ccs395.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/73205458"},"dateDigested":1532726215,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Questions and Comments about Hayles and Latour","description":"Hayles: It is interesting how the mind is, in a sense, the controller to our bodies. Through virtual reality it is almost as if we have a controller controlling another controller. This reminds me of inception. I believe that there are multiple layers to the posthuman and that as we evolve, we become even more immersed. Where does it stop? Is this natural? What is natural? Additionally, this reading has a very sci-fi meets reality kind of vibe.
\nLatour: In regards to the mass of the universe and missing mass, I find the concept of digital mass\/digital space quite fascinating. There is theoretically an unlimited potential to this. Data can be super compressed so that large amounts of it can be stored. Are we being replaced by machines? Many stores now have more self-check out lanes. I feel as though this isnt a new trend. When the assembly line became mostly mechanical, people were out of jobs. Now with supercomputers, I'm sure that some things could be done almost perfectly by machine whereas a human would be capable of error.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"72144114","dateCreated":"1424279195","smartDate":"Feb 18, 2015","userCreated":{"username":"Mr.MediaPsych","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Mr.MediaPsych","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1423180397\/Mr.MediaPsych-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/ccs395.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/72144114"},"dateDigested":1532726215,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Internal Advertising in Video\/Music Stores","description":"There is a culture within video\/music stores to play their movies\/music over and over again. They have their own branded commercials as well. Why do companies do that? Customers are already within the store. Can they really convince them to change their minds and get more products? I was personally affected by this because I used to work at FYE which is a music\/movie store in the mall.
